have been given an iPhone 3GS to look at it.
it seems to have failed and for whatever reason was restored and now won't activate as part of the intital restore process.

i've tried a DFU restore, and i get to the screen saying "connect to itunes", which i do and then itunes shows the following

the iphone 3gs was supplied by the apple store as a replacement for a faulty 3GS, and is 4 months old (so 1 month outside the 3 month refurb warranty). apple store took a look at it and said they couldn't do anything to fix it.

any thoughts?

also, this is what shows when you press the little "i" icon on the initial splash screen.
