My sister's iPhone is broken. It won't turn on by holding the lock button, it won't reset by holding the power and home button for even five minutes straight. It won't enter DFU mode, it won't turn on when connected to a wall-charger or PC running iTunes.
The only thing that turns it on is putting it in this speaker dock that also charges it. If I do that it turns on after a long cycle of the silver Apple logo showing, the screen turning black, and the brightness changing from full to low. After this 3-5 minute cycle of random Apple logoness it shows the lock screen, with the dutch message 'Activering vereist', which translates to 'Activation Required'. After unlocking the iPhone by sliding the unlock slide and entering the unlock code it shows a 'Connect to iTunes' screen with grey canvas-like background. After a while it turns itself off and restarts the startup cycle randomness. When it turns off the screen briefly flashes white for a split-second and then starts the startup process.
Additionally taking the iPhone out of the dock IMMEDIATELY turns the screen black and powers it off.
The connector on the dock has two pins on the side, I have no clue if this makes the iPhone react to it in a different way or not, but I've taken some photo's of a regular connector and the dock connector in case it helps. (The regular connector works, we've also tried with a brand-new connector and the results are the same)
