You want to restore the custom firmware from your iphone 4 to a 3GS?

No, that's not possible. Neither the baseband nor the IPSW is interchangeable.

You CAN jailbreak the 3GS on 4.2.1 with greenpois0n, but it won't be unlocked unless you use the iPad baseband.

no what i was saying was i have used green posion to jail break my iphone 4 so if i could use the same green poison to jailbreak my 3gs with version 4.2.1 and firmware 05.15.04

Yes, that will work. Use the latest version of greenpois0n because I think that resolved the ibooks issue.

i have tried it twice with the green posion and the phone keeps shutting off. i have done 3 phones with this green poison program but for some reason this 3gs isnt working...

how can i make sure which one it is?

There are several ways you can check;

1. look at the back to see the wording on the lower section is the same color at the Apple logo (Chrome), model # should be A1303. (This can be change if someone want to fake their phone by just changing the back housing)
2. Open the camera app, 3GS has function to record video.
3. 3GS has compass app while 3G doesn't.
4. Write down the model #s and run it through Apple website.

its a different model than the one you mentioned. its A1241 so 3g im guessing? how can i jailbreak this one?
