So with iTunes 9.2 on windows you can now update to iOS 4. I dont have to be on a developers list with my UDID number correct since it is a GM version?

I tried the GM on mine and I get an unknown update error 3003

My 3G is slower than heck and drives me crazy!

Jailbreak is already out. http://www.iphoneheat.com/2010/06/unlock-iphone-3gs-ios-4-0-with-ultrasn0w/

This will unlock and jailbreak anything up to baseband 5.12.01 which will be out when iPhone 4 is released.

here a jailbreak method for Windows users http://www.iphoneheat.com/2010/06/jailbreak-iphone-3g-ios-4-redsn0w-0-9-5-bet/

Not sure this is completely accurate. I am on a 3GS with iOS4 GM and my baseband is 5.13.04 which is currently unable to be jailbroken/unlocked.

you can't update to ios 4 yet with the new itunes. i just downloaded 9.2 tried to update my iphone and it says i have the current version already

Right, iOS4 isn't officially out yet. You have to download the IPSW file for your phone, then in itunes shift + click the check for update button and select the file you downloaded

yes but that wasn't what this thread is about.

Based on him saying things like GM and not having a UDID on the dev list I would think the person knows iOS isn't officially out yet, rather was asking if he could use the iOS 4 GM... Since 9.2 wasn't previously available for windows yet.

My 3g says NEIN! Will not take iOS 4 even after I redownloaded the correct version.. :(

Are you on a G or GS?

Ahh nothin like a little home button + sleep button kick in the pants to make your iPhone work as it should.

I'm seriously tired of the 10 seconds it takes to create a new text!

So the general consensus im getting is that 4.0 works like crap on a 3G? I have the ipsw and itunes 9.2 but I dont want to update to something thats even slower than 3.0 and could possibly cripple any apps that are not compatible.

Well I figured mine couldn't get any slower.. the upgrade to 4.0 probably did it some good if there was a bunch of crap wrong with my 3x os.

So far so good! Oh and the retina display in iOS 4 is amazing......... :D

I'm wondering if I should install the GM on my 3G... I mean, it can't get much worse right lol... Can we fall back to 3.1.3 if 4 is horrendously slow?

thats the thing, I think your stuck once you upgrade, im gonna hang back on this one, after all im getting my iphone 4 delivered on the 24th.......I think......

Yeah I guess you're right. I'll stick to 3.1.3 until Apple releases it officially - then i can whine to them about it if need be. I need my phone for work and it would not be good having a brick instead of a tetherable iPhone heh.

I think you can always put the phone into USB recovery mode where it says 'connect to itunes' and at that point specify a 3x IPSW file

But.. I thought iOS 4 was supposed to allow backgrounds.... mine is just black. I don't see where to set it. I KNOW this damned thing can handle a background.

if it's like my iPad, you can go into the photo gallery and 'use as wallpaper' or 'use as lockscreen'

On a side note, I just looked at my photos.. which were geotagged.. that's pretty fantastic that I can click on a place and see what photos I took there!!

oh and a side side note, my phone is no longer an 8GB iphone.. the capacity is now 6.9GB.
