Hi,

I am using iPhone 8GB (First gen) and am getting iPhone 4. I was almost decided on 16GB till my friends told me that 5 megapixel photos will be much larger than 2 megapixel ones. Also HD video will be large.

I am only using 5GB out of my 8GB phone now. I have 3GB of music and about 600 pictures on my phone. And yes about 150 apps :) I dont need movies or TV shows.

So just for Higher resolution pics and video, do I need 32GB over 16GB?

Some advice would be great. Thanks.

Depending on how much vids and pics you take, it looks like you could do fine with the 16GB IMO.

I will be using it for 2-3 years once I buy it. And I like to keep pics and video on the phone rather than moving it to the computer. I have taken 600 pics in 3 years... So it will be about the same with the new one... And about 5 hours of video a year (on trips)....

That makes it max. 700 pics and 15 hrs. of HD video... And yes, my 150 apps :)

Go with the 32GB then :)

I have an 8gb iPhone 3G and I'll be getting the 32gb iPhone 4. Better to have too much then too little. In the long run, $100 isn't much and re-sale value should help cover that later down the road.

Sounds like most are recommending 32GB.

BTW, 2 things would be very useful to know!

1. How many MB will 1 picture be?
2. What will the size of a 720p video be (1 hour) ?

I think that's all I need to know....

Most likely it might point me to 32GB...

Can we please just get a universal iPhone/Touch/iPad/iPod/Nano/Shuffle sticky thread...xGB vs yGB, for every device? This question is asked like every 1.5 days.

What we really need is a storage calculator applet, like the new data usage applet on AT&T.com.

Barring that, the answer is and always will be, GET THE MOST STORAGE YOU CAN AFFORD.

Basically if I can use the upgrade that I have on my other line, I will get the 32gb, but if I have to pay the $399 $499 price, I will get the 16gb.

1 photo of a white marshmallow on a white piece of paper could be in the kilobytes.

1 photo of a thousand multicolored marshmallows on a shag rug could be in the megabytes. Yum.

It depends on the subject. It depends on the camera. It depends on how it was saved. It depends.

Same for a movie. I have 90min 720p movies sized for an iPad that are 4gb. I have ones that are 700mb.

It depends how much media you plan to load onto it from the beginning. I have just a little over 16GB of music on my 32GB 3GS alone. And probably 3 more gigs of photos and short vids. Apps can also take up plenty of space.

If your not going to load a huge collection of music from the start, then 16GB is good enough. Otherwise 32GB is necessary.

I will just load 1 GB of apps and 400MB of pictures.

Rest is as I said: Just need storage room for 700 new pics and 10-15 hours of HD video...

So my storage is:
1.5GB from current phone + 700 new pics + 15 hours of video

Whatever that sums up to... And 1-2 GB of free space is good.

Why didn't Apple include a 64GB iPhone? It makes no sense to have an HD recording ability and be limited with only 32GB. My 16GB iPhone 3G has lots of pictures and video and is almost full, so if I had an 32GB iPhone 4 I know it would be filled with HD video.

think i will be going for 32gb this time round with the added size of megapixel count - HD video etc. i have a feeling it will be more popular this time round

Depending on the bitrate used, the 32GB may not hold more than 10 hours of HD video with nothing else on it.
