I've just had a look around but can't really find anything for less than a hundred dollars, but I'm looking for some way to plug my iPhone into a headphone jack to record music (kind of like having another iPhone playing music, plug 3.5mm audio cable into that iPhone, then plug the other end of that cable into my iPhone and recording the music in quality such as it would be high enough quality to add the recording to my own iTunes library for listening).
I'm attending a live performance that offers a wireless device for the hearing impaired so they can plug their own headphones into it and listen to the performance. Only, I want to capture that signal so I can relisten to this live performance again and again in the future (buying a recording on high quality CD would be preferable, but the performance isn't set up to record, master and sell CDs. The wireless audio devices were a donation).
I know there are devices that will do this for $600 or even $99 with the case of the Apogee Jam (although I think that might be made for guitar input only), but I'm hoping to find something cheaper. All I want to do is record this performance so I listen to it again later on, instead of just having to try and remember what the experience was like. I could bring my MacBook in to capture this signal, but the performance is kind of a classy affair and I'm pretty sure the theatre it will be performed in has never had a laptop open and running during a performance. It's not an option. But iPhone is small, battery life is long and I can just put it in my pocket with the line in from the wireless receiver and no one would ever know what was happening. I keep some headphones around my neck with a cable also in my pocket (but not plugged into anything) and no one will be wise to me recording the performance.
If it has to be around $100 anyway, then would be great if it also doubled as a line out, for higher quality music listening. I do have good headphones and 24 bit music that could benefit from a line out from the 30-pin connector.
Cheers.
