I was wondering if the current iPhone 4 8 GB model still had the death grip, as this may be my decision between 16 GB iPhone 4S or 8 GB iPhone 4.

From what I read the white Iphone still had it so I'd say yes.

The new antenna was only added to the 4S to the 4 8GB is probably just the same phone with less memory.

The 8GB iPhone 4 that's out right now (GSM / AT&T Model) does not have the redesigned antenna that the CDMA iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S has, so to answer your question, yes the 8GB 4 (but only the AT&T version) still has the death grip.
