My iPhone now starts up (shows the apple logo and goes into reboot loop) ONLY when plugged into the wall charger and as soon as I take it off from the wall (or from the phone), it goes dead again (the battery is still about 40% after 5-6 hours of trying this.

Can't get to switch it on with USB on my MAC. The only condition it will switch on is when plugged into wall charger.
I jailbroke it a few days back through jailbreakme.com and installed 2 apps - SBSettings & lockinfo

Can't take it to Apple as when it boots up, it shows the Lockinfo notification. I wonder if anything can be done as it is just not switching on or being detected by computer, so how will anything be modified in it.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Can you put it in DFU mode?

Don't ask me how, but that is the first thing I "hear"around here to try!

Yeah, I can put into the DFU mode (press the power & home button simultaneously, release the power button when it goes off but continue holding the home button till it restarts) BUT it's of no use if the phone would go dead as soon as I unplug from the wall charger -- can't restore it

If you can restore it, then do it! If it fixes your power-problem, then you're good to go. If it doesn't then you should be able to get a replacement.

err...can't restore it if it goes dead as soon as it is unplugged from the wall charger - which is what is happening right now!

Like I said ealier; put it in DFU-Mode AND restore as new.

I know what you are getting at, I was hoping to clarify from him to what he had tried - probably shouldn't have quoted you.

What i think he is saying is that he CAN put it in DFU mode while it is plugged into the wall, but then can't move it to the computer to restore it because it shuts down and exits DFU mode.

I dont know if that is plausible - my only device to need DFU was done at the apple store, I was just trying to eek more information out of him to help "you" to help help!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

What he is saying is he has to use a wall charger to get the iPhone to power up not his computer as that does not work. He can put it into dfu mode when plugged into the wall but when he unplugs it to connect it to the computer it instantly powers off.

Op. It sounds like your battery is nackard. Take your iPhone to apple and they will swap it. If you can't get it to power up they won't either. Goodluck.

Except it sounds like it shows something when plugged in that it is jailbroken, which will muck that up.

This would be why i haven't jailbroken... I have crappy luck! LOL!!

Try all your different USB ports on your computer as some have differing levels of power output, failing that try another computer.

Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions, I have tried all that - the issue is that it just goes dead as soon as it is plugged off the wall charger, whether in DFU mode or not and yes, it shows the jailbreak notification when it finally powers on through wall charger. Tried different ports & different computers.
Somehow, I'm convinced, this is a hardware issue and I should get a replacement but then I had jailbroken it and it shows a pop-up when it finally boots up

Im having the EXCACT same problem with an iphone 4 i have. it fell from my lap onto the floor of my truck which has vinyl floor and started doing the same thing. Hope u can work something out with yours. Im just gonna end up replacing my logic board. good luck

So this is what finally happened

Sorry for the delayed response.
I got the iPhone replaced - just gave it at the apple center and they said I'd have to wait for a few days as they didn't have the new one in stock.

3 days later, I picked up a new one - Thanks 

I still do not know what caused the problem (although I suspect moisture - I remember accidentally dipping it in my glass of whisky, even though for only a sec! - 2 days before it went kaput)

Got a feedback mail a few days later, of course, I'm more than satisfied!
I'm a fan for ever.
