i was in the midst of posting this question to you guys, when i realized i hadn't tried something. i ended up answering my own question but i went ahead and posted anyway just incase some of you are having any problems remotely similar.

the question:

i use windows xp at work. i've had the 3g and 3gs prior to the 4 and one of the things i was excited about was the flash and better camera (as i'm sure most of you were). i used the prior iPhones as my camera for work. i work in the auto body repair industry and we have to take a lot of pictures for insurance companies and liability issues ("that scratch wasn't there before i dropped it off!")

anyway,

the 3g and 3gs acted just like a camera when it came to the estimating software we use to write estimates. the 4, on the other hand, is slow to dump photos into the program. i'm just wondering if there are some iphone camera drivers out there that would improve the performance. i've looked and i can't seem to find what i'm looking for.

the answer:

i usually plug in devices and let windows install them automatically. i did this with the iPhone 4 and it seemed like all was good until i tried to use our software.

  1. plug in your phone
  2. go to device manager (several ways to get there- i always go to start, right click "my computer", select "properties", click the hardware tab, click "device manager")
  3. expand (click the "+") "Imaging devices"
  4. right click on "Apple iPhone"
  5. select "update driver"
  6. click "next" in the wizard

this may seem a little self explanatory to some of you, but i'm not a heavy windows user so it i was pretty happy i found this. once again my iPhone performs just like a camera on my windows work machine and with our software. also, i might add that this for windows XP. i have no experience with any of the later windows OS's. Windows vista & 7 may install the correct drivers automatically (don't know)
