i know they are definitely unrelated because i removed the broken glass housing and the green splotch was still there when taking pictures.

what would you guys do in this situation? take it to apple first to get the glass replaced then once more for the camera defect? i don't want them to think that the broken glass caused it.

It's not a defect, ALL iPhones have the green blob. Stop OCD'ing about it.

Apple will replace the back glass for $30.

As for the green blob, this is a common occurrence with many smartphone cameras when taking photos under fluorescent lighting. Google it.

In this middle of this thread you can see the same effect on the moto droid: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...e-Day-Camera-Reviews-and-Issues-thread/page31

You will not see this effect in outdoor photos or places with non-fluorescent lighting
