I got my first iPod from them before Apple offered a black option, but that was like 6 years ago and the company has gotten ridiculously overpriced and seems like the quality of the colors you can get has dropped as well. I like the black, but it's a viable option for those who want a boutique color.

No argument there, its exceedingly expensive, but for those that must have a color, then its one of the few options they have

Not quite. The dont touch the front panel at all, only the back, sides and home button. If you want just the back done you can get cheap replica backs for about £15 and fit them yourself.

Me personally, I would rather by a skin that color in pink or blue. That way, whenever the mood hit me I can change them out easily
