I obviously searched the forum and there are tens of pages and it seemed difficult finding an accurate answer...

I thought there was a trick pulling the plug from the charger, etc and it would reboot but it doesn't show anything.

Of course, I also tried plugging it into iTunes and that doesn't do anything either and also holding the home button while disconnecting and didn't either.

I have a 3GS with broken power button. By holding the home button once it's plugged into the charger it comes on.

I presume you've tried this?

Certainly did but it looks bricked. It worked yesterday until today... It wasn't dropped or anything else. Just strange.

A friend was planning on trading it in for a 5S but the phone doesn't work anymore or able to clear data.
