Can anyone help please? Why is it that when I take a landscape shot my pics are sharp, but when I turn it vertical to take a portrait-shaped pic, the pics turn out fuzzy? Any ideas gratefully received.

Wouldn't surprise me jrcsh6. I just wondered if anyone else has encountered this. I've only had my iPhone about 3 months, so there shouldn't be anything wrong with it... 
There shouldn't be such a problem.
I suspect its simply a software problem, not the camera or the photo itself.
Restore your phone, and you should be fine.
