My iPhone takes an extremely long time to do the process. And once it's over it gives me an error message saying it can't be backed up. Any help?

I'm getting the exact same problem with my iPad 2. Is yours Error -1303 as well?

I have error code 3200 on my 3GS
It occurs just after it contacts apple server, so hopefully a fault their end.

Me to.... says its on their back-up servers so it's on their end causing this issue right now.

I'm sure it's due to the friggin ump-teen millions of people updating to iOS 5 right now.

I was able though a few hours ago to update my iPad no problem.

Just gotta wait and see I guess.

That's something different though. That's the restore. I believe the OP is talking about the actual backup that happens before that. I'm getting a -1303 error. When I continue on, that's when I get the 3200 error.

I am able to backup the iPad outside of that process, however.

I had the same problem, kept trying and eventually it went through

i was having a bunch of issues as well on my iphone 4

i did a hard reset, put it into airplane mode and now it seems to be working

hope this helps

Still having this issue.

Hope once it all slows down later I will be able to get this update done.

Anyone still having these issues?

Same trouble here

I am on my 4th attempt to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.
I get the same error message, number 3004, in iTunes, that the iPhone could not be backed up.
Additionally, my iPhone is now stuck in DFU mode so if this is a server side problem I hope it is resolved promptly.
