I have no idea what is going on, as of last night my iPhone will not restore to any version of iOS

My brother by mistake put my iPhone into DFU mode so I had no choice but to
restore, it was on iOS 4.1

so I Attempted to restore to iOS 4.2.1, but that failed too

after serval attempts of restoring to my preferred versions of iOS so I can jailbreak I gave up and attempted to restore to the newest version and that also failed

it restores halfway then fails saying iPhone cannot be restored error 1013

I have tried serval computers Macs and PCs and the restore still fails

can anyone help my with my problem
I may go to the apple store today

you can't restore to 4.2.1 because that's an old firmware and apple is not signing that anymore. you have to restore to the latest version which is 4.3.5 unless you rely on an unlock like ultrasn0w

if you have blobs try using tinyumbrella

Yes, but now he just wants the newest firmware and my post will help him do a restore. He's in recovery mode and if he follows my steps, it'll kick him out of recovery mode and he can restore like normal.

As said above, you can't restore to older firmwares because Apple isn't signing them anymore. You can only restore to the most current version of iOS.

I tried what you said

but it will just return back to restore mode because it only has half the os installed

Did you try it or not? It seems you're saying just what you think will happen if you did it.

At what point when you're restoring do you get that error?

I did try it

I already have this

the point where I do get an error where it trys to verify half way then it fails
giving me a 1013 error

I may know the problem

can anyone post or pm me their host file

to find host file
right click finder
go folder /etc
find host file
open

Ive had this problem repeatedly for the last few OS versions. The gs.apple addresses are and have been commented out of my hosts file. That was a lifesaver back in the day, but now doesn't seem to make any difference.
