Back in the v1 days the iPhone used to charge while off. Didn't know if anyone knew but iPhone 4 does now too! 3G and S don't. Plug in, turn off. Doesn't show it's charging when off but it does. If you're like me and give your iPhone a rest, it's a good thing. Just thought I'd let y'all know!

I knew my 3GS didn't so i assumed the 4 didn't either, but thats good to know thanks.

Both the 3G and 3GS could be powered off once the charger was plugged in.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

I give my iPhone 4 a rest, however, it's not very often. I never tried to charge it while it was off, so I didn't know this.

This was the only way TO do it, also. If you turned it off, THEN plugged it in, the phone would come on. But plugging it in then shutting it off was totally doable with the 3G.

+1

Dont think I ever tried on the S, sorry. Knew for sure the 3G didn't do it.

If true this is a good change. If my phone is off and I want to charge, I never liked that apple turned it back on.

I noticed that my iPhone 4 will turn its self back on when I plug it into a charger.

If I turn it off (hold power button then slide to power off) then plug it into the AC charger with USB cable it turns back on.

Same thing if I let the battery completely drain to 0%. The phone wont even turn on when pressing the power button, but when I plug it in, a few minutes later, it turns on.
