iPhone 4, cracked screen w/ password, need manual backup

I have an iPhone 4 which recently got run over by a car so the screen is severely cracked but turns on and connects to my mac. I want to do a manual backup but I can't because I need to unlock my phone but my phone can't read my touch. Please Help!

plug in and do a backup? You would not need to touch the screen.

My phone has a password though and it says in order to do a backup i have to unlock my phone

I don't see there is any way around this. Go get the screen replace.

Amazing it still runs. Sounds like you're going to have to get it repaired not swapped first.

I'm grateful for iCloud as my contacts are all nicely in sync, the loss of a device no longer means loss of calendars or contacts.
