Unfortunately, my CC info was compromised (due to the whole PSN fail by sony), and my bank suspended my visa. I tried purchasing several items at the mall the other day, and being perfectly beneath my limit, i was declined. I called the help center and they said my account was terminated because of suspicious activity relating to a Sony purchase I made (psn store).

Now, I tried to download the skype app off the app store app on my iphone, and it wouldn't let me, because an "error" happened when I wrote my password & it verified my CC info etc. Is there any way to get around this? Why does apple care about CC info for a 'free' purchase?

Yeah this happens and it's very annoying. You need a valid credit card. in order to make a purchase from the app store. (Even if the app is free)

The only thing you can do if either wait for your new credit card, or buy a $10 iTunes gift card and it should be able to work without a credit card.

Um I got a new card last month and I just changed my card info and I've been getting free stuff the whole time, I think it's cause the bank cancelled the card instead of you

An even easier alternative would be to just add a PayPal account to your account.

I will look into that and report back. The bank told me it's gonna be 3 weeks till I get the new card, I really can't afford waiting 3 weeks to use itunes/app store again lol

edit: ok so i opened itunes, clicked the Store menu-button, then "view my account". I typed my pw and clicked "edit payment information", but paypal isn't an option. hmm?

It should look like this:

Get a pre paid visa card at any store, put a certain amount on it, and use it until your new card arrives.

Temporarily just put a different credit or debit card on file. If u have one.

Yeah it does. You can purchase them at most stores.

care to name a few? I live in the capital, so i'm sure i'll have whatever you're referring to.

And i only have 1 CC, so there's no other alternatives.

Your CC couldn't be compromised because of what happened to sony. Every major credit card company already said that their was no credit card compromised because of what happened to sony plus sony has already said that the CC numbers were encrypted.

I'm almost positive that within iTunes, there's a setting where you can completely disable the credit card. Think of how many people in this world don't have credit cards.

I've limited my exposure by switching to iTunes gift cards.

While Apple I think has been pretty good about securing the CC #s, they're also a pretty juicy target.

I wouldn't mind someone draining off $5-10-15 off of my gift card balance, but having them drain any amount off of a debit or credit card (or even PayPal) is probably going to be a hassle.
