i have an iphone 4 running the latest ios. for the past 4 days i have been staying in a hotel where the network coverage is quite low in the rooms. but when i walk out of teh room, i start receiving sms alters that i have missed calls. this morning, when i woke up, i checked my phone and there were sms alters that i had a few missed calls during the night. however, after walking out of the room, i tried to call my iphone from a different line and it still said the phone is off, although i can see that there are 3 bars of network. i kept trying for about 5 minutes, while i was out in the open to insure there is signal and still it said the phone is off or our of coverage area. i decided to unlock my iphone and try to make a call from it, the call went through normally and i even received the sms alrets for the the attempts i made to call it. as if the network was only activated when i actually used the phone and not when i waled into an area with reception.

of course i tried a few times to put it on airplane mode and call it then switch it back on again, and i receive teh alerts normally, with no need to use the phone to activate the network.

i am just wondering if what happened earlier in teh morning was due to the fact that it remained almost all night in no reception? or maybe it needed more time to detect teh network and i only made attempts for about 7 minutes, since i expected it to detect network as soon as i walk into a reception area?

it is worth mentioning that my phone is in a condition as good as new. never been dropped or anything.

i would really love to get explanation about that.
