Apple fans are so keen to get their hands on the iPhone 4 that some are bidding in excess of £1,000 for the handsets on auction site eBay.
Many of the sellers pre-ordered the iPhone 4 on Tuesday when Apple announced its pricing and are promising within listings that the auction items will be shipped on the official release date of 24 June.
The average selling price for the iPhone 4 32GB on eBay is around £850, a £250 mark-up from the Apple price. A number of accessories are also on offer.
Apple confirmed that customers can pick up either a SIM-free 16GB or 32GB from the Apple Store for £499 and £599 respectively. It will then need a specially made micro-SIM, which costs extra.
Many consumers had trouble pre-ordering the models when the list opened on Tuesday and the iPhone 4 pre-orders sold out within 24 hours.
According to the Apple Store on Wednesday, shipping for any new pre-orders will be pushed back to 2 July - a week after it is released - because demand is so high.
Network operator Orange was the first carrier to release its iPhone 4 prices and tariffs with official announcements expected soon from O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Three and Tesco Mobile - who joined the list of operators on Wednesday.
