Iphone 4 Headphone Jack Distortion

Up until yesterday my Iphone 4 headphone jack worked perfectly.
Now when I plug it in to any headphones or my sound system I get a very low signal with heavy distortion. What could have caused this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated:)
