IPHONE 4 Headphones issue

Hi all,

I have an iphone 4.
OS ios 7.1

Problem: Sound from speaker plays fine
When i connect earphones = No sound

I had purchased the device from a friend. He mentioned that only his earphones work with the iphone.

Sounds weired - I tried many earphones on the device still no sound.
Tried - Reset - Iphone still same issue

Only his earphones work on the device as stated by him. Currently i don't have his earphones with me.

Someone kindly guide on the same.

have you cleaned out the headphone jack? lint and other crap can build up in there preventing a good connection. carefully use a paper clip to dig stuff out and then a rolled up napkin or something soft to wipe it out.
