Hey guys, so my iPhone 4 has had the worn out home button problem for about a year and a half. I would have to push it on the bottom right corner really hard for it to register. Sometimes it would register as a double click and sometimes it wouldn't register at all.
I've tried all of the methods to fix it like wiping alcohol on it, blowing into it, putting it by an air conditioner vent, yadda yadda. Those methods will help for a short time or might even just be placebo effects. But the other day I accidentally fixed mine and it works just like brand new. Even the slightest click registers and no accidental double clicks. I am so shocked that I logged in here for the first time in ages to share my story.
I bought a Lifeproof case last week to protect my phone from sweat since it's hot this summer. The other day at work, we had some big shot coming to a meeting for a presentation, so the boss told us to leave our phones in our cars after lunch.
I got in a hurry and left mine sitting on the center console, face down with the sun shining on the back of the Lifeproof case for about 4 hours.
When I came out, of course it had the "Let iPhone cool down" message on it for about 10 minutes as I drove home. That night I noticed that the button was actually registering without having to click very hard. I tried just the slightest click and even it would register. After a year and a half of not working right and slowly getting worse, it is suddenly working like new. It's definitely not just a placebo effect. Apparently the overheating did something to fix it. Not sure if the case contributed to it or not, but I just know it's fixed. Mind blown.
EDIT: Or I suppose the ridiculous vibrations throughout the case when playing music could have done something. Not sure if it was the heat or that or a combination.
Try this at your own risk. I'm just sharing my crazy story.
