I am interested in opening my iPhone 4 and installing some sort of an insulator near the weak spot.

Has anyone attempted this yet?

Does anyone have any helpful information about trying this, beyond youtube teardown videos?

Don't. you need to insulate the OUTSIDE of your phone not the inside :)

lol doesn't that band aid cover the mic and speaker? Solves one problem but creates many more, seems utterly pointless apart from the 10 second novelty.
 
I think that's kinda cool, but I don't think it will work unless it's anything like Kapton tape, it probably won't work. I've been able to drop bars in bad areas with film from SGP.
 
A bunch of useless info from some guys who have no idea what there talking about.
