The past week or so my phone hasn't recognized when music is playing. I don't know if this coincides with upgrading to iOS 5.1, but it was around the same time. The album artwork doesn't show on the lock screen, and when I double tap the home button it shows the play button with no infor about a song as if the music app wasn't open. Hitting the buttons to play or skip does nothing.

Is this an issue with 5.1? How do I fix it?

Sometimes this happens to me as well on my 4S running 5.01. What I have found to work is to go back to the main screen, double tap the home button, and close the music application.

Upon reopening you should acquire the functionality again.
