iPhone 4 JB google volume issue

Here is the problem. Running iPhone 4 JB os 4.01.
Once I open the google app, the phone ringer volume can not be controlled. When I use the volume buttons it does not say ringer, or headphones if connected. If I double tap home and close the google app, volume returns to normal operation. Does anyone else have this issue or know a workaround for it?
It doesn't really affect performance other than being an annoyance to have to close the app after each use of it.
