Okay so a friend has an iPhone 4, on Tuesday night the phone completely died with 90% battery, wouldn't turn on. I connected it to my MBP and it booted up not a problem. Phone was fine after that until today which it did it again, apparently it makes a funny noise then just dies.

Just hooked it up and iTunes is saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and needs to be restored.
Tried restoring it and got this message: The iPhone could not be restored, an unknown error occurred (1600)

Any ideas?

okay the phone has powered on doing the home/power hold method but any idea's what's causing this phone to randomly crash for no known reason?

oh and another thing, when the phone has gone in to it's "dead" mode and you try calling the phone, it makes no noise but the phone isn't recognising the fact that it's not switched off.
