Hi guys, I'm pretty sure that the iPhone 4 was an LCD display, but I read somewhere (or I've heard it at Steve Jobs keynote) that the iPhone 4 had an LED backlit display.

So... LCD or LED?

LCD and LED are different things. LCD refers to the screen type, where LED refers to the way the screen is back-lit. Im pretty sure its an LED backlit, LCD display.

Correct. LCD is the display technology, and LED is the back-lighting system. And if you want to get technical, it's an IPS (In-Plane Switching) LCD display that is LED backlit.

LED = Light Emitting Diode
LCD= Liquid Crystal DISPLAY

knowing what the letters stood for would prevent any confusions.

I know that. That's why I asked whether or not the iPhone 4 had an LED backlit display or just a simple LCD display.

*EDIT*
On the Apple webiste, it says that the iPhone 4 has an LCD display. But I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs said LED backlit LCD at the keynote.

The Retina display includes LED backlighting and an ambient light sensor that intelligently adjusts the brightness of the screen for optimal viewing and battery life.

to sum it up: the iphone 4 has a Light Emitting Diode backlit In-plane Switching Liquid Crystal Display

Just so that you know the right terminology next time, you're thinking of CCFL-backlit for a "traditional" LCD display :)
