Hi all,
I recently bought my first apple product - a MBA 2012 - and it's great. So great that I thought I wouldn't mind an iPhone as well. I checked out eBay and bought an iPhone 4 for £272.
Now, my dilemma. The listing said that it was bought through / from Vodafone, either as an upgrade or new (wasn't specified). When the seller "scanned it" and listed it using the automatic listing service on eBay, it claimed it was "unlocked". So I thought it would be worth the risk, £47 cheaper than through the apple store, and even if it was locked to Vodafone, it wouldn't be hard to unlock it. However, it now looks like I did my research a little late as I've gleamed that unlocking an iPhone is not cheap and not easy. And now I feel slightly foolish that I might just have wasted £272 for something that doesn't work for me!
So the advice I need is really working out what to do next. The way I see it, I have the following options:
1) relist it immediately on ebay/gumtree and hope to get most of the money back
2) see if the automatic listing is correct that it is unlocked and thus have a working iPhone. However, if it is locked to vodafone and want to sell, the asking price will be less as the box is no longer sealed
3) Try to get it unlocked - where/how/how much?
It's a bit of conundrum - any advice appreciated!
