No, if your iphone is locked to AT&T the phone will not recognize any other simcard you put in so 3G or voice or nothing from no other carrier than AT&T.
That's what a carrier locked phone does.

The new unlock might or might not come out. No one knows at all. So, assume it will not come out at all and plan for alternative.

It doesnt look good for the software unlock so far.
But you can try one of those turbosim adapters to unlock it for now.

There is none you can get the Grevy sim but there are legal issues there. No matter what a unlock will not support 3G on t-mobile

If you do unlock your phone, you can only use edge on t-mobile (and there's no way around that). If you're travelling, it depends on what frequencies the carrier is using.
