I just got my iPhone 4. I have had it for 2 days and I absolutely love it.

Before hand I had owned the 3G since the day it was released, which did me good until recent, the 3GS was not something I desired.

However with the increasing competition and rapidly changing SmartPhone world how long will the 4 month old iPhone will last as a a great phone, including how long will it be in the iOS cycle.

Can we expect that in a year or two that the iP4 won't be capable of still keeping up with the other phones and possible new iPhone?

You can bet on it

Starting by Wireless technology, in two years smartphone will be LTE, faster and more powerful (Multi core Processors, multiple radios, etc). Carriers will be talking about LTE+ and iOS will be on version 6 or so with the iPhone 4 no able to suport many of the features on that OS.

The lifespan of my iPhone is exactly 1 year. No more no less.

I get the new one each time because, well, that's just how I like to roll.

Strongly considering getting a Ferrari 458 Italia as well but the waiting list is putting me off as Im a 'must have it now' kinda dude.
