Hi,

Just wondering is anyone else experiencing this problem.

Have been using Mail to take in my Gmail for the last two years with no problems and over the past couple of days, emails come in and after a short while, the phone marks the mail as read?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

It's marking it as read or unread? Your post and title are contradicting.

Apologies, I corrected the text there in the original post.

So the phone downloads any new email. It shows in mail as a new message with a blue dot. I leave it and come back five minutes later and the blue dot has disappeared implying that the mail has been read even though i've never tapped into the message itself.

Thanks.

I'm assuming you haven't viewed it in gmail?

No, haven't viewed in Gmail or on Mail on my MBP.

It's really weird. The only thing that has changed is me upgrading to latest iOS when it came out..

Even at that, I have only noticed this happening the last 2/3 days.

I access Gmail via POP on my MBP but even when Mail is closed on the MBP, the issue happens.

Strange thing is, if I mark an opened mail as 'unread', it seems to keep that status but any new mails appear as read after a couple of minutes.

Do you access gmail via POP on any other computer or device?

I think that's the cuplrit. Try using IMAP or exchange. Both are supported in Apple Mail.

Yeah, I have my gmail set up as IMAP on my phone and don't have this problem. The only other place I access gmail is through the web. I don't use the mail app on my iMac or MBP.

Ok, thanks for all the ideas.

I used to use IMAP but I believe that IMAP doesn't keep my mail synced between gmail, Mail and iPhone. So for example, when you read a message on the phone, it's still unread on gmail or the MBP. For this reason I switched to POP some time ago.

Testing here with my current setup (using POP on MBP) and once the Mail App is not open, it seems to keep the iPhone mail intact.

The whole thing still doesn't make sense to me though!
