Im looking to pre-order the iphone 4 on the 15th through apple.com. Now with the new no commitment option, will I be able to just pre order the phone only and not have to input any at&t info? I just want to buy the phone and not have to sign up for a new 2 year contract. Whats the best way I can go by doing this?

Will it change this year, so that I can just buy the iphone 4 through apple.com just by adding to the cart and checking out...No at&t stuff you need to put in? If not how can I buy the iphone 4 on launch day w/o an at&t contract

No you need to verify your AT&T customer status. Apple doesn't want to feed the unlocked market.

No commitment is still tying you to at least a 1 month contract. You won't be signing up for a "contract".

Thing is, if you're moving it to tmobile, they don't sell micro sims, so how exactly are you going to make it work? You'll have your full size sim.

Thats false, no commitment doesnt tie you into any type of contract.
You can cut any full size sim into a microsim size.

What are your plans for this phone? Unlock and use on another carrier?

Maybe he just wants to buy the phone outright that way he isn't locked into another contract. This is exactly what I'm doing for the 4, although I'm not going to have any problems with getting one, since I can just ask my manager to hold one for me on launch day.

And activate it on AT&T? Why? That's very foolish financially.

Seriously ? Did they change that recently ? Cause according to others who bought the 3GS (straight from the Apple Store; no-commitment) last year, they just had to sign an agreement saying they won't use the phone with anyone but AT&T. Nothing else.
And activate it themselves at home.
Can more people confirm this ?
Do you really need to show them that you are an AT&T customer who has a voice and data plan ?

I'm guessing this is the only way to do it. Gotta do it @ the Apple store and sign that form.

No commitment is not the same as no contract. You're basically month to month... you're not making a so you'll have to cancel after the 1st month. They'll make you pay for a month.

Any AT&T customer can go in and purchase a no commitment iphone and be month to month with no contract.
Or never even activate it on an AT&T account. Just sell it right away.
