I went to sync my phone to my iTunes, but it doesn't appear in the side bar. I've treid restarting iTunes, plugging in and out, but nothing so far has worked. Any help?
 
I had to shut down my virus protection (avast!) to get mine to recognize. This was iTunes 9.2 on my Windows 7 machine.

The Apple support page has some steps to disable some of the Apple services running, but I ended up performing a system restore since that messed with my desktop widgets (for some reason, probably did it wrong).
 
Ugh. I managed to get it to work by reinstalling iTunes, but today it started doing it again. It's INCREDIBLY frustrating.
