With all the problems that seem to be surfacing to do with the iPhone 4 I am seriously considering waiting for the next iPhone, but I want a new phone at the end of my contract and to be honest I am a little tired of the slow iPhone 3G.

So it will either be an iPhone 4 (24mths) or X10 mini (12mths) then the next iPhone or Bold 9700 (12mths) then the next iPhone.

Can anyone recommend any of the phone above or should I just bite the bullet and buy the iPhone 4 with a case? (I am in Australia so the iPhone 4 is yet to be released here)

I'm in New Zealand, and I'm just gonna go for it and buy the iPhone 4 (Will be first Apple product - except for iPod).

of those choices I think the x10 would be better, even though i'm not an andriod fan, i like blackberry even less.

I've used both the iPhone 4 (my current phone) and the BlackBerry 9700. The iPhone is in a completely different class from the BB; there's no comparison. Unless a physical keyboard is one of your requirements there's no reason NOT to get an iPhone. In a case there's no issue with the signal. The proximity sensor problem does not affect everyone (I'm unaffected) and Apple will be addressing it in a future update.

I've had many phones over the years, and my first iPhone was a 3gs, now I have the iPhone 4. I love it. You should get it if you don't usually hold it the "bad way AND don't want a case, AND you don't want to hold it differently. It really is a great device.

This whole iPhone 4 reception Antennagate thing is totally overblown. Yes, gripping the iPhone 4 with your left hand causes a drop in signal. But guess what? Gripping the iPhone 3GS in your right hand causes the same number of bars to drop. I have a 3GS and an iP4 here and tested one in each hand. I had a Palm Treo that would drop a call no matter the signal quality when I put it up to my left ear. Seriously, there is nothing to see here. I haven't had a single dropped call or any other weird or disappointing behavior in my normal use of the phone.

In a few weeks this issue will disappear into the background noise.

Edit: This is an AWESOME phone!

if you come to an iphone forum, chances are pretty good you won't get many recommendations for other phones. it's kinda like that round here.

I dont think either of the phones you listed even compare to the iphone, in fact I would rather have the old 3g than either of those, just take the plunge and get the iphone 4, how many bars to you generally get with your 3g running 4.0.1? If you get 4 -5 bars with that, the death grip shouldn't bother you.

Im partial the the iphones... If I had not sold my 3gs I think I would have returned the ip4... Not an option you listed but I would just keep your current phone and wait for the next/hopefully fixed iPhone

If you are going to have a case on your iPhone 4. The antenna reception will be the same or better as any other smartphone.

Since I personally use a case, I have no issues. The only people that have problems are those that want a "naked" iPhone.

The iPhone 4 is a keeper for me.

No worries... go for the iPhone 4. Its the best device/phone I've ever used, or have ever seen. Get the bumper and you will nice protection and maybe even better reception. Don't believe the hype from the forums of Googleberry users who are simply insecure about their own devices that they have to spout-off about other peoples.

Check the coverage map... if its Orange and Blue... then definitely go for it.

Yeh but there are still a lot of people that dislike the iPhone in here and people who do have recommendations.

In my house I get between none and five with the 3G depending on where I am in the house. My 3G has become slow and I would also like a new phone with increased storage capacity as I have filled 16GB with music.

There is no way I would get the X10 mini. The screen is just too small. It is only 2.6 inches. Here is a picture I got from www.pocketnow.com I have a case on my iPhone 4 and it solves my reception issues.

Get the SS Captivate coming out tomorrow(18th). Blackberry sucks dude.

Blackberry has absolutely the worst web experience in the mobile device. Iphone has been out for 3 years in the market, and they still haven't released the web browser that is based on web-kit. I understand that they are working on right now, but you would most likely need a new hardware to take full advantage of it such as pinch zoom and etc.

Blackberry sucks in many aspects.

He's in Australia so it's not coming out on 18th. It's probably out already as Galaxy S. Come on read his post before replying. Also Galaxy S wasn't one of his choices.

To OP, if your coverage is very good or you intend to use a case anyways then I would go for it.
