The button is almost flush with the metal edge. Sometimes it's unresponsive when pressed and it has to be pressed in the right place in order to work. It's especially difficult in the bumper case. Is there any known fix for this?
I should also mention it's very old, like from release day.

Sounds like you need a new power button flex cable. They do wear out over time. Check out www.etechparts.com, search for power button flex cable. You can also check out www.ifixit.com and they can walk you step by step thru how to fix the issue.

I have a similar problem. I was in a car accident and evidently my phone hit something in the car right on the button. It is sitting lower than before and if I press super hard it will work most but not every time. I also hear something rattling around in there when I shake it.

I was wondering if it was more likely the button alone or if it was the cable. Sounds like the cable judging by the description above. I guess I could order both parts from iFixit and be good to go. This is already a frankenphone as it is since I had to replace the screen a few months back and i have a battery waiting to go in since the original is getting pretty weak. I'm just trying to make it till the next one comes out.
