Whats the deal with the proximity sensor.. The screen keeps switching itself on while on a call.. and my cheek does the rest.. sometimes mute. sometimes speaker.. getting irritated day by day.. is it just mine or anyone experiencing the same?

Regards,

Do you have the latest iOS install on the phone? The latest version iOS 4.1 was suppose to fix that issue. I had a similar issue with the iPhone4 when I first got it...drove me crazy. The software update did the trick for me. Hope you have similar results.

Be advised, iOS 4.2 (or iOS 4.2.1) should be getting released to the public in the next week or so. Keep checking MR homepage for the latest and greatest.

Thanks cosmo.. But im already runnin ios 4.1.. Dint work for me.. Hopefully there is some additional fix in the ios 4.2 as well..

Thanks,
Shrikant.

I don't think there's anything else in 4.2. A lot of us had the issue and when 4.1 came out it stopped happening.

I have seriously not had any problems with the proximity sensor, I got my phone a couple weeks ago.

This is not defending the iphone4, I just not have had any problems and I have not used anything less than 4.1 on it and my call lifetime timer is at 3 hours 17min.

Mine recently started doing all the time. I might try reinstalling 4.1 to see if that fixes it. If not, I will make my first ever genius appointment. i have noticed though, mine seems to do it a lot more at night

Well, Im in Mumbai (India), where the iphone 4 hasnt officially been launched yet and there is no support service for iphone 4 currently. I had bought it from UK, a factory unlocked one. so if its a faulty sensor i guess i will have to live with it. will try reinstalling the ios 4.1 once. but if doesnt, ill leave it. ill keep enjoying the rest of da things dat are truly awesome.

Thanks everyone,
Shrikant.

Mine does this (yes, 4.1). I hang up during important work conference calls because of it. I've been forced to use a bluetooth headset and be very careful if I get the phone near my face.

VERY irritating.

How do you know this? A cursory search for iOS 4.2 proximity sensor shows that there has been some additional tweaking to the proximity software in iOS 4.2. I hope so because my iOS 4.1 iPhone 4 is driving me bananas.

Well I hope this additional tweaking won't screw it up for those of us who got rid of the problem with 4.1. Mine's working beautifully! ;)
