I bought a IP4 3 months ago PAYG o2 and just had a replacement from apple, would it be unlocked now?

i dont have another micro sim to check it out with unfortunately

If you bought it factory unlocked yes, if you bought it from a carrier (you did) no.

how would they lock it in store as they gave me a brand new phone out of a black box. not same as o2 branded box or anything. would they have stock for diff carriers in store? surely not be too much hassle

Once connected to iTunes for activation Apple/Carrier servers determine if your phone has a right to be unlocked...or not...

If you really must know, why don't you call apple to find out?

That's what I did.

I bought my phone through a carrier in Australia, Virgin.

Then they gave me a new phone from the Store, in black box and what not. I got curious, called up Apple and asked whether mine was unlocked or not, and they said that it was.
