My phone is out of warranty and the power button up top has broken. I went to the Genius Bar, but they want $150 for a refurbished 4. I asked if it was possible to upgrade to a 4s, but that was a no.

When the iPhone 5 comes out do you think replacements for the 4 will be any cheaper? If so, I'd rather wait cause $150 is a little too much.

Thanks!

No, the replacement for the 3GS is also $150.
The replacement fee for the 4S will drop to $150 when the i5 is out but they dont get less than that.
And no they dont update you to a newer model either. You get the same model, color and storage as before.

I am in the same situation. I am going to wait until the 5 comes out and come to the Apple store offering a bit more to see if they'll upgrade me to a 4S. I am ready to cry to make that happens.
