I’ve got an iPhone 4 from a friend and it has problems restoring! It has a iOS 6 beta version on it and:

When I press "Check for Updates" it says: "This version of the iPhone software (6.0) is the current version".

When I press "Restore" it says: "There was a problem downloading the software for iPhone. The requested resource was not found".

When I try to restore from backup from my 3g backup (iOS 4.2.1) it says: “iTunes could not restore the iPhone because a session could not be started with the iPhone”.

When I hold down Option (alt) and click “Restore” and pick the ipsw, that I have downloaded (have tried both 6.0 and 5.0) it says: “iPhone cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.”

I have tried whatever Apple Support suggests but noting seems to help. Could it maybe have something to do with iCloud? My friend has iCloud and makes backups that way but I don’t have an account and just backup on my computer.

Thanks for help!

Hi, thanks for the suggestion – didn’t work though, it’s still saying, “iPhone cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.”

I could try waiting some more; it’s just that I’ve tried the last two days with the same error so it’s hard to believe that’s the actual problem. And it really sucks don’t having a phone – so any other ideas?

Got it solved – it occurred there was a # missing in front of my hosts file for some unknown reason, added it and now it works!
