iPhone 4/S-USA to Australia?

I am going to be working in Australia. I have an ATT iPhone 4S and a iPhone 4.

Can someone point me some helpful advice for using my phone while there without being raped on charges.

I believe I can put a hold on my ATT service here in the USA while I'm gone but I don't know what I need to do while I'm in Australia.

Are your phones unlocked? If so you can just put a hold on your At&t line here and just buy prepaid simcards there. If they aren't unlocked and your 4 is still running 4.3.5 you can get gevey sim and unlock it that way.

I recently bought locked AT&T iphone4s from us, they send me only the phone no AT&T SIM. So i cannot back up with itune and cannot activate either.
That mean cannot use it.

So what is the solution i can unlock this phone? or i need to buy AT&T SIM for unlock it?
