Hi all, me again with my faulty Iphone

This time I have a different fault, hopefully someone has had this fault previously and can help.

The problem I am having is, the signal will randomly drop on the phone. I have been having the problem for a few days now. I have restored the phone numerous times to no avail, some of the key points are:

  • Generally happens when data is being received
  • Signal doesn't drop if 3G is disabled
  • Enabling/disabling Airplane Mode does not help restore the signal
  • Restarting the phone does sometimes fix the issue although it can get stuck in a boot loop for a while (possibly as a result of the signal issue?)
  • Does occasionally just start working again by itself
  • After a period of no signal, prompts that the Iphone cannot make or receive calls and that a restore is required

To me, it is screaming out antenna connection issue or intermittent failure, but from my experience (5 years of working with IT hardware repairs), hardware either works or it doesn't, there's no intermittent middle-ground. I've just ordered a toolkit off Ebay so I will be opening it up over the next few days to take a look. In the meantime, I'll keep reporting back with any new discoveries that may help identify where the fault is.

Has anyone ever experienced this issue?

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: Also I should mention, yesterday I set carrier selection to manual which seemed to help although today it seems to be just as bad as previously.

Edit: Just restarted when signal is fine and phone doesn't boot loop.

Really? I thought those antenna issues were with the 4S.

Thanks for the easy fix :D.

Are you serious ? Antenna issues were the main problem with iPhone 4, solved by iPhone 4S with a new antenna design.

Btw, I never had a single problem with my iPhone 4, one of the best iPhone I remember ....

Yep you will need to cover it up. If I use it naked the signal will keep dropping. I use keep it covered when I am on the go and no problems.

Yeah only because I remember hearing about the antenna issues on the radio which didn't seem that long ago (obviously is longer than I thought).

Is the boot looping a standard thing too, after signal has dropped?

Borrowed my gf's pink case today (brings out the colour in my eyes) but signal is still dropping.

Anybody else suspecting faulty antenna?
