iphone 4 sim card in iphone 2g, internet does not work

I can't my iphone 4 sim card to connect to the internet on my iphone 2g.
The phone receives and makes calls with no problem but can't connect
to the internet. The E (Edge) is displayed and the rotating display is circling but nothing. Is there any settings I have to redo??
The iphone 2g is jailbroken and I wanted to download apps because my wifi on it does not work.
Any suggestions appreciated.
