Hi,

My oncle went last month to Miami and to the Apple Store Miami. He said that he saw that there were also sold simlock free iPhones in The Miami Apple Store (i know in the US they are lockes to AT&T). Can someone confirm the Apple Stores are selling also some simlock free ones? If so, is that also in the 5th. Av. Store in New York? And what is the price of it?

BTW: I'm from the netherlands and the wait time for the iPhone 4 is here around 8 weeks!

Thanks

Its not possible to buy an unlocked phone in the US but I did see iPhone 4's for sale at schipol airport in august so they must still have them now.

I can confirm Apple Stores dont sell ifficial unlocked factory :D. maybe it was some 3rd party resellers.
BTW I think iPhone is pretty pricy and still locked in holand.

Yay for all the Dutch people:

Visitors to the forum iPhoneclub.nl discovered this weekend that they are devices that are purchased after January 12 at home could get rid of the simlock. The provider reported that in a response only from February 1st with all devices can officially. Until then, customers can call the company for instructions.

The iPhones that T-Mobile in recent years produced, were well provided with a SIM. Which ensures that the phone can only be accessed via the network of T-Mobile itself. The telecom provider has long been the sole supplier of the device in the Netherlands.

No longer useful

Since late last year, the iPhone is also on sale at T-Mobile rivals Vodafone and KPN. According to T-Mobile simlock therefore no longer useful, so let the company know this club iPhone. The simlock of older aircraft can be freely removed.

The official method, as can be read on the website of T-Mobile:

1. Turn the iPhone completely off.
2. Insert a SIM card from another provider (KPN, Vodafone and Telfort) in your unit, and the iPhone.
3. After startup, select 'Unlock'. If asked, enter the PIN of the SIM card question.
4. Connect the iPhone for a half hour with your computer, iTunes launched. During this half hour you can not use the iPhone, don't do synchronization or updates. iTunes must stay connected to the Internet.
5. Disconnect the iPhone after half an hour from the computer and reconnect it with iTunes still enabled.
6. iTunes will prompt an update of the new provider (carrier) is found and asks if it should be installed. Select "Yes ".
7. There appears a message "Congratulations, your device is unlocked. If you had set a PIN, you must now enter. Top left of the iPhone screen shows the name of your new provider. Is this not the case, then you disconnect the iPhone again and connect.
