My iPhone 4 use to seem pretty snappy when on iOS 4.x. But since upgrading to iOS 5.x and now 6.x it doesn't seem as fast and even seems a bit sluggish - even after closing unused apps and after a power cycle. It's a 32GB with ~16GB free space.

Are there any tips/tricks to improve performance? Does a full backup and restore help?

New operating systems require more processing power, ram, etc. you get more features at the cost of performance. There's nothing you can do but upgrade to a newer iphone.

Do you have your SSH blobs saved? If so then you are in luck!

There is a guide here, but you need the blobs from 5.1.1.
