There seems to be a manufacturing defect on the stainless steel band. There is a chip or scratch next to the headphone jack that has always been there. Is this a true issue that can be used for replacement? I REALLY want to have this taken care of.

Call Apple Support. They're the only ones that can answer that question.
 
Is it the little hole that is actually a second microphone for noise cancellation?
 
Nope. It's to the left of the headphone jack, not the little hole for the microphone to the right of the jack.

Can you post a picture? I think I have the same Thing but next to the speaker.
(and yes, I know this is old)
