My friend is in Mexico and his iPhone 4 was stolen at security. He did not install the mobileme app. Is there any way to wipe his phone without that app having been installed? Thanks!

Nope. Unless the thief knows how to restore iPhones. It can be blacklisted by AT&T so the iPhone can't be used.

We were hoping we could wipe it clean so who ever took the phone won't have access to my friends e-mails and contacts. AT&T has been called and the iPhone has been disabled as a phone, but the data is still on the phone.

Although it is possible it is difficult to get data off of the phone in a readable format. Also did your friend have a passcode setup? If not why!? That is one thing protecting the data on the phone from someone else.

They could wipe the phone clean and start fresh which is what iTunes does to a newly connected iPhone... So hopefully a passcode was setup....
