iPhone 4 stuck on checking mail...

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1... Among other problems I've been having (iHeartRadio not working until a reboot, apps crashing, safari crashing)... My phone is stuck on "Checking for Mail..." on both my Gmail and MS Exchange accounts draining my battery and not receiving mail. Both accounts are working perfectly fine on both my iPad and in Apple Mail. I have a feeling that all of my problems are inter-related, but I don't know what may be causing them... And I've never JB'ed my phone... any suggestions?

Try resetting NETWORK settings. If that doesn't fix it, maybe a fresh "set up as New" might be in order...
