iPhone 4 takes long time to sync mail accounts

The last few times I have synced my iPhone 4 with iTunes, it gets to "syncing mail accounts" and stays there for several minutes. I just updated to 4.3 and it's still taking a long time. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using gmail.
