I finally upgraded my regular iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5 this past weekend. Here are a few things that have stood out to me.
First and foremost, does the IP5 have a higher resolution display? I know the screen is larger, but I am really surprised at the quality compared to the iPhone 4. Darks look darker, colors "pop" (for lack of a better term) more off the screen...on top of being larger it just looks like a higher quality display. Very nice surprise.
The longer form factor and longer screen are not nearly as noticeable as I was expecting (in a good way). For adding enough room for another row of icons, it surprisingly still feels about the same as the IP4. It's hard to explain. They've added useful screen real estate without making the phone seem much bigger at all.
Upgrading from 3G to 4G is (obviously) a major boost. I went from about 5mb down/2-5mb up to 18mb down/18mb up.
Hands free text messaging with Siri is surprisingly useful. This should make driving much safer now.
I use the Podcast app a lot and this phone seems to launch the app and load content much faster than the IP4...a very welcome change.
I got the black version and I have to say that it is pretty sleek looking. The matte black edges look great. The slate back looks better than I thought as well. The slate also gives it a nicer feel in hand as opposed to the slippery glass backing.
I know the camera is supposed to be a big step up as well, but I am having a little trouble with it. Particularly, all of the pictures I tried taking in low light situations (out at the bars with friends) had a sort of cloudy/smokey look to them...I couldn't really get any of them to turn out well. A setting or something I don't have adjusted properly?
Overall this is definitely a great upgrade from the standard IP4...very glad I waited through the 4s and made this upgrade.
